I believe that art primarily comes from within the mind, especially from the thoughts, emotions, and feelings at any exact moment. My art is a representation of what is going on in my life, within my head, always thinking, over analyzing, and striving for perfection, but yet coming nothing close to it. I struggle with the fact that I am unable to express my emotions verbally, and painting has become my way to escape. Early 2007 I was first inspired to paint while attempting to cope with my father’s cancer, with a million emotions and a thousand things to say, I touched my first brush to a canvas. My emotions poured out, and “Spoken” was created. I am in love with the fact that I begin a piece, and yet it becomes nothing close to what I had imagined it to be. I do not plan and I do not prepare. It is a way for me to express my emotions, and eventually, once again, have a clear mind. I primarily focus on my love for acrylic paint, being able to provide a variety of textures and elaborate my creativity and put my emotions on a piece of canvas. I use a variety of different tools to create the various looks of my work. I love to blend. I love to create texture. I love the feeling of touch.
Biography: Born in Houston, TX and growing up in various cities around the state, I was always attracted to the world of art; sewing, drawing, painting, photography, pottery, dance, and music. Off to college I began studying Fashion Design, but somehow got lost down a path with so many choices and found myself studying Business Marketing. Though, still using my sense of creativity, something didn’t seem right, it wasn’t the same “hands on” aspect that I had forever longed for. After graduating with a degree in marketing from the University of Houston May 2007, I have come to the conclusion and realization that my passion is painting. I see the world in a different light as I pick up a brush and touch it to the canvas. I lose myself in a state somewhere between reality, relaxation, and a dream. A blank canvas can transform into anything you desire with a variety of colors, textures and designs, just as I let my life take changes as it turns into a piece of art itself. Here I am, a new and local artist to the Houston area, just starting out, and looking to find my home and place in the world of abstract.
